My Mental Health Counseling Approach
Thank you for visiting my website! My mission and joy is helping my clients find healing, personal insight, and growth.
My counseling approach is holistic and eclectic. I have an interest in integrating Narrative Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Attachment-Based Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Meditation-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and EMDR, and music & art.
I find myself drawn to working with women of color, many of whom identify as neurodivergent (HSP, 2e, EPG) and/or having a history of complex trauma (c-PTSD).
About Me
I love mental health counseling, because it allows me the opportunity to watch my clients grow on multiple dimensions—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spirituality—to live more satisfying and fulfilling lives.
Currently, I am a first-year Mental Health Counseling Ed.M. degree student at Teachers College, Columbia University, receiving the Founders Award (merit-based scholarship) upon admission. Prior, I gained a MPH degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Yale School of Public Health. I completed my medical school training at the Texas Tech School of Medicine, where I was awarded Dean’s Award. My BA degree in Biology with a Minor in Music is from Wellesley College, and I graduated with magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Sigma Xi honors.
I am currently a Mental Health Counseling Intern at Only-Connect Psychological Services, PLLC. My previous psychiatric training and public health expertise allows me to approach client work with a nuanced and comprehensive view of mental health care, and I bring this understanding to my counseling practice. I have completed psychiatry clerkships at the Hazelden Betty Ford Center and Harvard, Yale, and Stanford Medical Schools—specifically at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Lurie Center for Autism, the Connecticut Mental Health Center, and the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. I also have served as a Public Health Intern at the Leeway Center for HIV & AIDS in New Haven, Connecticut.
In my practice with clients, I emphasize the therapeutic benefits of music and the performing arts at large. In particular, I am drawn to how singing can alleviate anxious and depressive symptoms, as well as how different harmonies, tonalities, and lyrics can reflect and enhance the healing journey. My ongoing work as a professional composer and musician has led me to focus on somatic elements and creative, expressive approaches to healing. I have trained in voice, piano, and composition under performing artists at The Juilliard School, the Yale School of Music, and the Trimble Vocal Institute. When composing, I draw inspiration from the healing practices of meditation and yoga. In 2019, I founded and served as the Chief Executive Officer of the investor-backed social venture Agora Good Life, Inc., supporting student mental health through music and dance. For my work connecting music and health, I have received he Rita Wilson Seed Grant and InnovateHealth Yale Grant. For my writing on the healing power of music for children with neuropsychological disorders, won the Seven College Conference Book Purchase Award.
Mind-body techniques are vital to how I understand personal growth and development. I bring awareness to the “whole person,” considering all aspects of the Self and promoting mind-body integration. My perspectives influenced by Eastern philosophies (e.g. Vedic texts). Spiritual approaches that help my clients find balance, flexibility, and joy in their mental, emotional, and physical states are of particular importance.
I have a specific interest in working with neurodivergent women of color with complex trauma (c-PTSD), who often identify as highly sensitive (HSP) or gifted (EPG, 2e). I served as an Health and Wellness Head Teacher at The Quad Preparatory School in New York City, where I worked with twice exceptional middle school and high school students. Recently, I gained certification in Giftedness Profiling for Therapists and Coaches from the InterGifted Organization in Switzerland.
I relate to my clients’ international experiences, especially as a former third culture kid who was born in India and grew up in the UK, Canada, and the US. There is both a beauty and challenge in discovering and defining identity with a multicultural lens. It brings me great joy to help individuals navigate the rich tapestry of their heritage and lived experience.
It is my goal to promote social justice, so that all individuals can receive the support necessary to live better lives. With this goal in mind, I have provided neuropsychological care to Roma orphans with the Romanian Children’s Relief, as well as mental health and wellness education to high-risk pregnant mothers at the Casa Materna in Nicaragua.
